Yesterday after we finished swimming lessons, we ran over to Nona's house to say hi since she had been out of town for 3 days. As my mom and I were just getting into our conversation, Bella came running out to me crying and saying that she swallowed something silver and little. I figured it was a dime or nickel. As I was asking her questions, she was really freaking out. She said it was not change and kept saying she didn't know what it was. Then all of the sudden I remembered seeing one of my mom's hearing aid batteries sitting on her computer desk. Now Bella is known to put things (weird things) in her mouth...don't ask me why, she's just one of those kids that does it. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten after her for doing it and I get really mad about it, too...but she doesn't always listen!! Here is a prime example. So I asked her if it looked like such and such and then my mom grabbed her hearing aid and took it out to show her what a tiny little battery looks like. SURE ENOUGH...that is what she swallowed. Oh man. I first thought that we'd have to let pass naturally...but then I got this terrible feeling that it could be dangerous, since it's a battery and who knows what a battery is made of. Right??? So I called the Doctor. He immediately asked me if I was absolutely positive that it was a hearing aid battery. YES, I said. He then proceeded to tell me we'd have to take her to the E.R. and have her put to sleep, so they could go in down her throat and fish it out. I started crying. Big mistake. Bella REALLY started freaking out. She was hysterical. She kept asking me if she was going to die. If they were going to have to cut her open. If she would wake up before bedtime. If her voice would sound the same. Etc. Etc. So off to the E.R. we go...now this could take me a long time, but my fingers are starting hurt from typing already!! In the end...after consulting with 4 Doctors, they decided that it is extremely difficult to get those tiny batteries out and nowadays they are making batteries a lot more safe if swallowed. They said they'd rather try to let her pass the battery on it's own. We'll go back on Thursday to have another X-ray done to see if it has indeed made it's way out!! If not, then they will go in after it. Let's hope she can pass it without the Doc's help.
She gave us quite the scare, tho. That's her second trip to the E.R. in 4 years. No more!!
We took Jace to the Doc this morning and had his 6-month check. He is very healthy, weighing in at 18 lbs. and 28 inches long. He's still in the 90th percentile for length and moved up to the 75 percentile in weight. Doc said he looks great. Once again, he survived those darn shots...barely cried. He's a lot tougher than his sisters.
Ok...I'm too tired to write anything else now. The following pics show many of the new tricks I'm learning in my online photoshop class by Jessica Sprague. It is such a neat class...and it's all for FREE. You all should check it out if you like to use photoshop...click the link to on the left of my blog!!
